At least no fewer than two armed robbers lost their lives while fleeing for security operatives on Durban Highway.
Reports say the men of the underworld crashed their car during a high-speed chase by the Durban policemen.
According to Durban police spokesman, Col Thembeka Mbele, the SAPS went for the armed robbers after receiving a tip-off about a vehicle with five occupants, wanted for a house robbery in Phoenix, north of the city.
“After conducting an investigation and checking video data, police detectives learned the automobile was utilized in a robbery in Phoenix on Thursday last week when the perpetrators pretended to be city officials.”
“Police officers learned that the automobile was driving from Reservoir Hills to KwaMashu,” says the statement.
A team of police officers located the vehicle on the M19 highway.
“A gunfight erupted, and shots were fired. On Inanda Road in Parlock, north of Durban, the suspects’ car collided with a barrier.
“On the scene, all five suspects were captured. The suspects were hurt in the crash, and two of them died on the spot, while the other three were apprehended.”
